Holidays are great for changing your perspective on life and showing you things you wouldn’t normally come across. Recently I travelled to Gran Canaria. Wholly different from the UK in terms of weather architecture and colour. Near where our group stayed was a large area of sand dunes before a distant and optically deceiving approach to the sea (we never made it.)

A Case of being the right or wrong place at the right time (Baking sand whipping up at you is pretty painful). The day we first attempted to cross the dunes we were hit by high winds creating amazing patterns and swirls around the landscape.

The sand whips up plumes of sand which float across the dunes like figures.

The peak of a dune showing half in shadow and half in light. Contrast in texture is exaggerated by the light.
Sand dunes change and move over time failing towards the light or dark.

Foot prints are left in the dunes but they disappear quickly in the wind making it very easy to get disorientated.

The wave marks left in the sand are caused by the wind the sea never gets anywhere near dunes.
Its almost as though this is one of sands favoured forms.

This Video shows the Patterns made by the sand as the wind blows surreal to be standing in the middle of, it will also ensure you’ll still be finding sand in odd places for the next few days.
